The Goan: What makes Vogue BFFs different from the rest of the celeb related shows out there, apart from the obvious concept of getting two best friends in?
Kamal Sidhu: It has me hosting it (laughs). It has Vogue's sensibilities written all over it. We give our guests the space to allow their free spirited selves to come through. We're about loving, laughing and living life, away from the impositions our professional or personal lives make on us, love them as we may... though technically, I am at work.
TG: That loft looks amazing. Did you have a hand in designing it?
KS: It is gorgeous, isn't it? We have Vogue and the design team to thank for that. It really sets the bar, I have to say, as far as talk show sets go.
TG: Do you really think stars reveal all their secrets when on camera, or are they still playing some role or the other when it comes to the public, in your opinion?
KS: The question is, can we give our egos a break? "Yes, we can", as a powerful person once campaigned! In my opinion there is nothing more rejuvenating than doing that. Peel off the layers of pretence and allow yourself to enjoy your real self? Sign me up any day! That's what we give our guests the chance to do. Be the tomboy, the clutz, the kooky kid you are inside, because that's what's interesting, that's what's beautiful, that's what's real. And that is what audiences can really relate to. I think our guests all relish at the opportunity to be vulnerable once they realise they can and it's cool
TG: Are the stars that you meet larger than life, or are some of them quite down to earth?
KS: In my personal interactions with my guests, I have only been pleasantly surprised with the loveliness and liveliness of each individual. Sure some have come feeling a little under the weather or undergoing a fast or maybe tugging along some baggage from the outside world but despite this each and everyone has been gracious, giving and glorious as you can see on the show. And it's been great to experience that!
TG: What would you say you are most comfortable with?
KS: I like to think of myself as an adaptable creature, able to roll with the punches, come what may and take things to the next level. I have done that my entire life and career and that frankly speaking is the fun of it. It's the Renaissance way. The polymath in me lives for that. That I can delve into and explore the extensions, potential and creativity of my entire being are my life's true goals. And my TV shows from then til now have allowed me the freedom of diversity to do just that. What could be better?
TG: Is it important to reinvent yourself now and then, especially when you’re in the public eye?
KS: I never understood the act of voluntarily reinventing oneself, when growth, learning, opportunity and time, naturally takes care of that for us. Reinvention is part of the human condition. It happens while we're busy living a life. Science calls it evolution.
